For leisure walkers, hikers and cyclists, the area offers well-marked and well-maintained cycling and hiking trails, which — together with the nearby historical sights — make Klana an important and attractive part of the Rijeka region.
This is a land of breath-taking natural beauty and valuable historical monuments. Cyclists and hikers can explore fascinating sites that reflect the region’s dynamic past— and combine a love of nature with an appreciation of cultural heritage-
Excavations of Gradina Fortress,” is located on a rocky hilltop directly above the centre of Klana. The highest point of the site is 629 metres above sea level. The outer defensive walls form an irregular shape that is about 30 metres wide and 75 metres long.
This is also an area with a large number of small, romantic churches, among which we mention the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, built on the site of the apparition of the Mother of God, where every year on August 15th a procession passes and mass is celebrated. Quite simply, history and the present, spirituality and the dynamics of life merge into one here and create harmony.
In the mixed beech-fir forests, there is a lot of game; deer, roe deer, wild boar, chamois, bear, wolf, lynx, fox, wild cat, white and golden marten, badger, dormouse, hazel grouse. The most attractive hunting is deer, bear and roe deer, and black game hunting.
In the area of the Municipality of Klana, the hunting society HLD ”Zec” operates, which manages the common open hunting ground VIII/121, with a hunting area of 2494 ha, and offers commercial hunting of the common snipe and the common quail.
A much larger offer of commercial hunting is provided by the Croatian Forests, namely the Klana Forestry Office (State Hunting Ground VIII/21).
In the Smrekova draga hunting ground, which covers an area of approximately 18,000 ha and is located in the area of three forestry offices (Klana, Prezid and Tršće), the Klana Forestry Office owns slightly less than half of it. The “Suho” hunting lodge provides comfortable accommodation for hunters, and 8 closed hunting lodges provide maximum comfort and convenience.
In the Klana area, there are no fewer than 13 marked and maintained hiking trails that lead through dense forests and peaceful meadows to picturesque peaks and fascinating historical sites. The trails vary in length and difficulty, making them suitable for leisure hikers and families as well as experienced mountaineers.
The area around Klana is also excellent for cycling, thanks to a network of well-maintained nature trails that lead through wooded areas and historical sites. The cycle paths are suitable for both recreational cyclists and serious MTB (mountain bike) enthusiasts.
