LOCATION: Klana<\/p>\n\n
The village of Klana, surrounded by wooded hills, has survived for centuries amidst turbulent historical events. Its mountain springs and dense forests have attracted people since ancient times. What began as a watchtower on a hill above the village gradually developed into a fortified stronghold, which was expanded over the centuries as rulers changed and the strategic value of the region remained.<\/p>\n\n
The archaeological site “Gradina” is located on a rocky hilltop directly above the centre of Klana. The highest point of the site is 629 metres above sea level. The outer defensive walls form an irregular shape that is about 30 metres wide and 75 metres long. This strategically important position was first used in late antiquity in the 3rd century AD as part of the Liburnian Limes, a network of forts, watchtowers and walls.<\/p>\n\n
In the late 1990s, the renovation and construction of paths began. Since 2017, Gradina has served as an open-air summer stage where various cultural programmes take place.<\/p>\n\n
In the Studena\u2013Ravno area, on the Vranjeno hill and in the valley known as Za Presikom, remains of the Liburnian Limes have also been preserved. Liburnian Limes was a Roman defence system used to defend the Clausurae Alpium Iuliarum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
